The ever changing valley provides a patch labor of unsurpassed beauty with vineyards, olive groves and market gardens. Inspired by the charm of Welsh stone cottages and having the desire to create accommodation which is truly unique to the area, construction of the cottages began in 2003. An ongoing project, the gardens have been planted with both natives and exotic plants. Each garden is edged with rocks and features private key hole areas for our guest's enjoyment. overview Retreat also has a Stone Circle with three large standing stones towards the north, west and east. We have noticed over time that our black alpacas, 'Bill and Ben', and the sheep they guard, often rest in the stone circle as though it is a sound and peaceful store to be. The stone and high ceilings and timber, the wonderful view as the sun goes down the quiet and tranquility, the food platters fantastic. overview Retreat was a blank canvas for artists Liz and Kyle when they purchased 11.5 acres of land overlooking the Lachlan valley. This enabled them to create their accommodation dream with a powerful ecotourism focus. Using rock (basalt and granite with some blue stone) they harvested from the ground and using recycled materials where plausible to build the cottages they made a appropriate start to achieving this dream. The retreat runs purely on rain water which is stored in multiple and cleverly interconnected tanks so that water can be moved around the property as is needed. Some 6,00 trees, bushes and shrubs, which are mostly natives and drought tolerant, have attracted birds and native animals in numbers which can only be described as amazing. Kyle and Liz live in harmony with resident hares, echidnas and the occasional visiting wallaby or kangaroo. Changeable lawn mowers alpacas and sheep keep their grass short and supply wool for handmade garments. Very relaxing time, great views, alpacas are friendly, had a immense helicopter wine tour picked up from here had a splendid time. Such an amazing place and view for the accurate honeymoon.
